GREATER MONCTON, NB, October 11, 2024 – The Greater Moncton International Airport Authority (GMIAA) is proud to announce that it has been awarded Level 2 (Reduction) Airport Carbon Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI). This prestigious recognition highlights GMIAA’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices within the aviation sector.

The Airport Carbon Accreditation program is the only institutionally endorsed global carbon management certification program for airports. It independently assesses and recognizes the efforts of airports to manage and reduce their carbon emissions. The program provides a unique common framework and tools for active carbon management at airports with measurable results.

To obtain Level 2 (Reduction) accreditation in the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program, in addition to demonstrating a commitment to a policy focused on reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions, GMIAA showed a reduction in its emissions for the calendar year 2023 based on the rolling average of the past three years’ emissions, excluding calendar year 2020.

“We are excited to receive this recognition from Airports Council International,” said Courtney Burns, President and CEO of GMIAA. “This milestone reflects our dedication to sustainability and our proactive approach to reducing our carbon emissions. We believe that environmental responsibility is essential not only for our community but for the future of the aviation industry.”

This accreditation aligns with GMIAA’s goal of contributing to global efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable development in the aviation sector. The airport is continually exploring new ways to enhance its operations while minimizing environmental impact.
