DIEPPE, NB – Passenger traffic at the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM) increased in 2017, resulting in its second-best year on record.  In 2017, 665,630 passengers travelled through YQM, a 1.3% increase over 2016 (657,272). Passengers flew on YQM’s main airline partners, including Air Canada Express, the airline offering the most frequency from Greater Moncton, as well as Porter and WestJet. The increase was also linked to WestJet adding frequency and seat capacity to Toronto, which represented a 6.5% year over year increase or 6,661 passengers. Another airline with remarkable growth was Sunwing, with a 9.6% increase for a total of over 30,000 passengers.

During the winter months, YQM is also served by airlines offering 14 direct non-stop flights to southern destinations. Transat Holidays offerings direct flights to Florida, Mexico, Cuba and Dominican Republic. Sunwing Vacations provides direct flights to Florida, Cuba, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Mexico. Meanwhile, WestJet is also offering direct flights to Florida. Celebrity Cruises, the all-inclusive cruise program, is also returning for two weeks in March. For details on direct flights out of YQM to sun destinations, visit YQM’s website at www.cyqm.ca under the “Flight Information” tab, then choose “Winter Destinations Schedule.” Reservations may be made by contacting airlines directly or calling your travel agent.

“This year’s growth is the equivalent of 107 full Q400 aircraft, which is the aircraft we see the most at our airport,” said Bernard LeBlanc, President and CEO of the airport. “As New Brunswick’s busiest airport, we are confident that we will continue to grow and prosper in the face of growing competition and constant industry changes. “We continue to work hard at making YQM the local, provincial and regional airport of preference and are grateful for the continued loyalty of our customers, airlines and partners in the business community and government. We are motivated every day to keep building upon the significant economic impact we have on the entire region.”
